An Update, Sure.

This is coming from my phone so I’m going to keep it short and simple until my computer decides to work with me. Plain and simple, life’s been fucking amazing, time is going fast, and I’m getting a new place starting in the new year. I have been to quite a few shows since past update including my boys in Hit the Lights. It was def one of the best shows I have seen them put on. Work has been crazy good, and I have met some good people. I can’t wait to travel back home to see my family and friends and start this new year off right. Until then, I love you all. Peace

PropertyOfZack Review : : Hit The Lights

propertyofzack:

“We’ll weather the rain, the sleet, the snow and oceans // Just go get through to you,” Hit The Lights declared back in the summer of 2008. The Ohio quintet should add “label ineptitude,” “singer changes” and “tour controversies” to that list. Since their inception as a starry-eyed pop-punk outfit in 2003, Hit The Lights have weathered many a storm. No one would have discounted their efforts if they had decided enough is enough and walked away from music after the release of their sophomore record, Skip School Start Fights in 2008. Alas, they have stuck it out, and for the first time in nearly four years, have released new music: the EP, Invicta. With just three songs, Invicta is sure to inspire the dreamers and the critics once more.

Invicta starts off with the roaring “Gravity,” the best song Hit The Lights have ever penned. Using a celestial motif in place of the diary-entry fare most have come accustomed to in the pop-punk universe, “Gravity” is a refreshing exercise of lyrical manipulation, albeit somewhat on the dreamy side. “Can you see the galaxies brighten when we’re aligned?” is no worse, however, than any lyrical success from other contemporary pop-punk outfits. Yet, it is lead singer Nick Thompson’s soaring vocals that steal the show. “Gravity”’s larger than life sound, á la Def Leppard, comes stadium-ready.

The bombastic “Earthquake” follows, with a seismic beat much in line with Skip School Start Fights. Alas, “Earthquake” is slightly over embellished; the string section that appears at the conclusion of the song is tacky. Yet, the track does have a strong structure, progressing with familiarity while still remaining intriguing.
